Type and Image Relay: Talk to Frank
For this project, we were instructed to create a narrative comic strip with panes made up entirely of existing advertisements - looking into how Type and Image have a ‘Relay Relationship’ (i.e. they are both as important as each other in a piece of work, and support one another in their existence). Admittedly, we had absolutely no idea where to start, so we first pulled well known adverts together to see if anything shouted out at us; Coca Cola, McDonalds, Fruit Pastilles, Rimmel and NHS were all staring at us but nothing seemed to click. Eventually we stuck with a rough idea of where we both wanted it to go, and the basic goals that we would want the narrative to achieve. We tried to keep it humorous, but keeping within the conventions of a normal comic strip. The text, resizing, and framing was all done on Photoshop by Sam and myself, and we are both proud of the final image. This project seemed so simple at first, but ended up putting us both to the test; I feel that we were a really effective team and I’d be more than happy to work closely with Sam in the future.
